Hello! I’m Alice, and I love Disney, musicals, art, and tea.
I also love food. I always seem to be preparing something or drooling over the menus of my favourite restaurants, and I get so much joy from creating a recipe and seeing the smiles on people’s faces as they eat it. I’m also a Slimming World member, but this doesn’t necessarily define the food I make – I want to create delicious and healthy recipes that everyone will love, but that just so happen to be Slimming World friendly!
I’m originally from the North East of England, and grew up in the small market town of Morpeth in Northumberland. I moved to Brighton in 2010 to study English Language and Linguistics at university, and fell in love with the city. I now live in a cosy little
flat with my gorgeous girlfriend Helen, and am studying towards a diploma in Interior Design whilst also working for Harvey Maria – a fabulous designer flooring company that I love being part of.
I’ve always struggled with my weight, and I remember reading somewhere that Brighton was the ‘skinniest’ city in the UK (what does that even mean?), so naturally I assumed that I’d be practically supermodel material within a month of moving here. Much to my surprise, that wasn’t the case – although I did enjoy learning to cook for myself, and even managed to lose a bit of weight during uni. More recently, I’ve really focussed on eating healthily and have found that Slimming World works wonders for me, managing to lose just over 1.5 stone in 5 months. I’ve still got a long way to go, but I’m determined to get there!
I’ve decided to start ‘A Spoonful of Sweetener’ because I know how difficult it can be to eat healthily, and that it’s about 10 times as hard when you’re trying to do it on a budget. You’ll find a mixture of original recipes, recommendations and tips for making other recipes healthier, as well as weekly meal plans to help you to cut down on food waste and hopefully save money. Ironically, you’ll probably notice that I hardly ever use sweetener at all. The fact that it fizzes when I put it into my coffee actually kind of terrifies me – I’m pretty sure it can’t be good for you!
Lots of love,
