And now for something completely different! Well, not completely different – but I have decided to give the blog a bit of a re-vamp!
You might have noticed that I’m more than just a little bit shit at keeping it updated, even though I feel like I have loads to say and generally never stop talking if you actually meet me in person. So, I’ve decided to change things up a bit, because I felt like the pressure of a purely food-based blog was a bit much. Yes I love cooking, but do I have enough knowledge and motivation to create enough original recipes to keep a blog afloat? Probably not. However, there are plenty of other things that I most certainly CAN write about, and I most certainly will! I’ll still be posting recipes here and there and keeping you updated on my Slimming World journey, but hopefully my content will be far more varied and therefore more interesting!
Right, now that’s out of the way, it’s time to dive head first into my first ever beauty post – a review of my April 2016 Birchbox!
If you haven’t heard of Birchbox, then I’m sure you’ve come across the idea of monthly subscription boxes. These days you can pretty much find one for just about everything from comic books to coffee, but Birchbox is one of the most popular beauty boxes. It costs £12.95 per box including delivery, and is personalised according to a questionnaire you fill out when you first sign up. I’ve found that, as a bit of a beauty addict, it’s been a brilliant way of feeding my addiction and discovering new products without having to buy them in the full size.
This month’s box, entitled ‘Blooming Marvellous!’, teams up with paper & stationary company Rifle Paper Co., and look how beautiful the box design is! Serious heart eyes as soon as I opened this one! (Side note: the boxes are the perfect size for bedroom make up storage, and are always pretty enough to display).
In this month’s box, I was lucky enough to receive…
This is a leave-in conditioner with a beautiful scent, and – as someone with VERY fluffy hair post-blow dry – I always appreciate getting things like this in my Birchbox. It’s much lighter than my usual daily hair treatment (OGX argan oil), but I found that it reduced frizz and made my hair super easy to brush through. I think my hair really does require an oil, but this was a brilliant alternative! 3/5
Now, I’m going to be completely honest here – the world of bronzer isn’t something I’m particularly well versed in. And by that I mean I’ve literally never owned or used a bronzer. However, as a complete beginner, this product wasn’t scary at all. In their new liquid formula, it blended beautifully and the colour was pigmented without being too intense. I’ll definitely be using this on my holiday in June, and the packaging is BEAUTIFUL! 4/5
As someone who usually favours liquid liner over pencil (and even that is used very sparingly – I tend to play up my lips a lot more than my eyes), this was a joy to use. The pencil glided on smoothly, and didn’t tug at my delicate eyelids like other pencils I’ve tried. I did find that it melted off a little during the day, but it wasn’t too noticeable and I think a good eye primer would probably fix that! 3/5
I feel as though I’m not alone in saying that, when it comes to my beauty regime, foot care is hardly at the top of my list. In fact, I hardly think about it at all – I’m lucky enough to have naturally soft feet (funny story – I once stood on a wine glass and it severed all of the nerve endings in my foot, and to this day I can’t feel it properly. That foot has been freakishly soft on the bottom ever since, and I get no dead/dry skin at all. GROSS AND WEIRD). I’ve only reached for this product once since receiving it, and I didn’t notice a massive difference. The smell of tea tree was pleasant though. 2/10
I am definitely saving the best ’till last. This oil is INCREDIBLE. Not only does it smell beautiful – a luxurious blend of 6 essential oils including sweet almond, macadamia and hazelnut – it made my hair beautifully smooth and manageable. It can also be used on the face or body as a skin treatment, which I was also really impressed with. A little goes a very long way, and you have to be a bit careful not to overdo it – I put a little too much in my hair one day and almost had to wash it again. Thankfully it soaked in and looked great, but it was a close call! At £17 for a whole bottle, this is going straight on my wish list! 5/5
I realise this post is a liiiiittle late (I received my box almost a month ago), but it was my birthday, okay? And obviously that lasts an entire month! You’ll be glad to know that there is still time to grab your April Birchbox here, and all of the products listed are available in full size too.
Lots of love,
