Two weeks ago today, we woke up to the paradise that is Skiathos, a Greek island with beautiful beaches, a vibrant town, and the most wonderful people you could ever meet.
We only stayed for a week which wasn’t nearly enough time to explore the island and do everything we wanted to do, but that only leaves us incredibly excited to go back one day! I won’t waffle on, so without further ado, this was our holiday in pictures ♡
Getting drunk on the plane, natch.
We loved eating Greek yogurt and honey every day with this beautiful view!
The view from the taxi boat was beautiful, and we even saw dolphins on our first trip!
Skiathos Town Old Port – so beautiful!
The town is alive with cobbled streets, quirky decor and cheap cocktails (very important!)
I don’t even drink beer, but when it’s 3 euros for a gyros wrap and a pint, I’m not one to say no. Greek beer was actually pretty good!
Strawberry Caipiroskas by the harbour
Greek Mountain Tea Mojito at the hotel cocktail bar (our favourite spot!). Big shout out to Leftie the barman who was such a joy to meet – he even gave Helen cocktail making lessons and we have since made this at home! I might even post the recipe if he lets me…
A panoramic of our hotel, pool and restaurant. We had such an amazing time staying here!
Pistachio & Greek Yoghurt ice cream. HELLO.
On our second-to-last night, we went to this beautiful mountaintop restaurant. It was surrounded by olive trees, and the decor and food were both incredible. Not to mention this stunning view!
We were also lucky enough to see this incredible sunset whilst we ate our dinner. Beautiful!
One night in Skiathos Town, we managed to find one of the only gay bars on the island – we were gutted to be leaving on Friday, as on Saturday they had a drag show which would have been AMAZING. Maybe next time…
Skiathos and the neighbouring island of Skopelos were both filming locations for Mamma Mia the Movie in 2007! We BLOODY LOVE Mamma Mia, and we actually watched it on our first date so it’s extra special to us. They have an open air cinema in Skiathos Town which shows it 3 times a week (obviously!), so we made sure to fit that into our trip! It was just our luck to choose the ONE night where it CHUCKED it down, but we were drunk and had plenty of soggy popcorn, and it definitely didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. They had dancers who came on stage every now and again, and the atmosphere was just amazing!
Continuing the Mamma Mia theme, we spent our last day on a boat trip around Skopelos, visiting various film locations and listening to the soundtrack on repeat and drinking a LOT of cocktails. My perfect day, basically!
This was on the beach where they filmed ‘Lay All Your Love On Me’ (Amanda Seyfried has totally danced on these rocks – biggest claim to fame of my life).
This is the church where the wedding is held at the end of the film, and Meryl (Queen) sings ‘The Winner Takes It All’ and flails around a lot. We climbed all the way to the top in 33 degree heat, which was totally worth it but I 100% thought I was going to die.
Sweating my tits off after climbing up to the church!
One last drunken evening with Leftie in the hotel bar!
Does it actually get more beautiful than this?!
If you’re looking for a holiday that has a bit of everything – quiet, relaxing beaches, incredible food, lively nightlife, Greek culture, history, activities and exploring, and Mamma Mia galore (as I’m sure is on everyone’s holiday wishlist), Skiathos is definitely for you.
