Depending on who you speak to, there are a number of ways to tackle the Christmas period when it comes to your weight loss journey. I start finding it difficult to stay on plan around a week before Christmas (so now, basically!), normally beginning with my work night out (which was on Thursday and has ruined me), followed by my friends Christmas meal coming up and a constant supply of mince pies wherever I go. The way I see it, I have 3 choices:
1. The ‘focussed and on plan’
2. The ‘fuck it, it’s Christmas’
3. The ‘bit of both’
This year, I’m going for number 3. I’m being realistic – I’m not going to stay perfectly on plan, and I do have events planned where prosecco and pudding will be calling my name! It’s even harder to stay focussed when you’re spending Christmas away from home (I’m going to Spain to visit my family), as it’s more difficult to stay in control of your choices. However, I do still want to keep my head in the game where possible, because last year I didn’t and it was incredibly hard to snap back into it come January. I still only gained 3lbs despite being off plan for the best part of 2 weeks, but that mindset stayed with me a lot longer than the extra weight took to lose again.
I’m not expecting to lose weight over Christmas with this method. I’m just hoping to keep gains to a minimum, maybe even manage a maintain, and not end up back to square one before we’ve even reached New Year!
