‘What is a ‘relaxed’ goal?’ I hear you ask.
Well, relaxed refers to two things here, the first being the fact that it’s almost the end of January already and I’m only just setting them. Life since my last blog post has been a bit of a rollercoaster, so I’ve taken most of January to recharge. It’s kind of nice, though, because I’ve had a chance to really consider what I want to achieve this year.
Secondly, I am firmly of the opinion that a goal should be just that; something to aim for, something you’d like to achieve at some stage, but NOT the be-all-and-end-all. If I don’t get there then hey, who cares? Priorities can change, life gets in the way and we’re only human – but I’m going to give it a good go!
So, without further ado…
My 2018 Goals
Remember my roots
My mum is coming to visit me tomorrow, and it will be the first time I’ll have seen her since Christmas last year. If that isn’t bad enough, my brother is coming a few days later and it will have been over TWO YEARS since I saw him in the flesh. I haven’t been back home to Newcastle for around 3 years now, and I tend to rely on friends visiting me instead of making the effort to get to them.
2018 is the year this changes completely – I’m SO excited to spend some quality time with my mum and brother next week, and I’ve already booked a trip to Newcastle in March! In my defense, I live at the opposite end of the country in Brighton and it’s not exactly an easy journey to make (not to mention that both of my parents live abroad which makes it even harder!), but I’m determined not to let that be an excuse anymore!
Improve body positivity
I’ve already written pretty extensively about my battle with body image and my determination to be more body positive. I won’t lie; it isn’t easy and it’s still something that I struggle with every single day, but I’m slowly removing diet culture from my life (read: social media feeds), and I feel so much better for it.
My next step will be to balance this with eating in a way that makes me feel good, whilst somehow avoiding diet-led thoughts and continuing to rebuild my relationship with food. I want to move my body more, and am planning to join a local swimming pool where I can get in some exercise before work (gross, but there’s no way I’d ever go after work!)
Do more for me
Again, I chat about this a lot (not sorry), but I want to continue to improve my ability to do things on my own – for me, and me only. I want to read, paint, sew, walk, swim, draw, travel, bake, learn… you name it, I’m up for it – and I want to make new friends and improve my anxiety along the way.
Re-evaluate my spending
I’m definitely getting better at this year on year anyway, but I’ll do my best to spend my money wisely – i.e. less alcohol and things I won’t remember, and more high-quality things that I REALLY want, so that I have something to show for my money. I plan to save more efficiently, contribute more to my pension, and keep growing my credit rating too.
Better my blog
Yep, of course some of my goals involve blogging itself! I’ve got big plans for 2018 so far, and as it’s the year I start doing more things for me, I’ll make sure I have plenty of time to achieve them too. Things in the pipeline include a new look/logo, more frequent posts (ideally twice a week at first, but maybe more as I get going!), more Instagram posts, improved photography, scheduled posts and tweets, more networking and reaching out to brands, and discussing some topics I’ve been too scared to talk about so far. Exciting!
Paint my nails
A little different to the rest, but still important nonetheless. When I paint my nails, I feel more ‘put together’, confident (weirdly), and my hands look better in Insta pics. Obviously an essential for that blogger lyf.
Have you made any goals for 2018? Are they similar to mine, or completely different? Let me know in the comments!
